 Fillings simply replace natural tooth enamel affected by the cavity. There are several filling materials that can be used including gold, amalgam, and composite porcelain. We highly recommend porcelain fillings due to the fact they look like your natural teeth and lack the negative chemical (such as mercury) and asethetic properties of silver amalgam. Crowns are used when a tooth cannot be saved with a filling. If the damage from a cavity has killed the root of a tooth or the tooth has died due to another injury, a crown replaced the dead part of a tooth. Any living tissue is preserved and a composite material is used to make the crown. The crown is color matched to your existing teeth and appears natural when completed. |
